FEVERED HILLS - A Quick Question for Those Who've Read It...

For those of you who've read "Fevered Hills" already, I have a couple of questions, some things to ponder...

How many bullets are left in Martin's gun at the very end? Why is this important? Do you know how and why each bullet was fired?

If there are any left, what do you think they will be used for?

Also, how accurate do you think are Martin's flashback scenes? Does he remember everything correctly?

Just some things I was thinking about as I wrote "Fevered Hills."

Post in the comments section. I promise to respond, even if it's with an evil grin. >:)

After that crazy bitch shot at him, he should have had 2 bullets left, so with Ricter being dead at the end and all, the other missing bullet may have been used on him, but if so, who shot Ricter? How tasty was that housekeeper, and will Martin decide to eat Ricter before he heads on his way to continue living is semi zombie life? Will he fall in love with a hot blond lesbian and change back into a human? Only time will tell...

Well, I don't know about all that. Maybe. You clearly have some interesting ideas about some of the things going on in "Fevered Hills."

One left. No. Probably not, memory is fallible. And I would think he would save the last bullet to blow his own brains out... Why not.

I felt that he would reserve the last bullet for himself, but revised that opinion when he left to explore what was left to explore what was left of the world. He had the determination to continue on, regardless of having lost everything else around him.

I felt that his flashbacks were accurate to a point. That is to say, Martin believed in them, and so they were, in fact, his reality.

BTW, LOVED this novella, and it is currently on my DarkFuse top 10 list! :) I'm highly anticipating THE NEW FLESH!!

Argggh!! Need an edit button! The first sentence should read "....when he left to explore what remained of the world." (I think much faster than I can type...)

To be perfectly honest, I don't have the answers, but was thinking about them a lot as I was writing. It's strange really. You'd think I'd know, since I was the one who wrote the damn thing. But I don't write that way.

I agree with you though, Kimberly. I think Martin is determined to continue, although he might think to use the last bullet on himself if it comes to that.

I also think Martin's world is not a sane one. I think it's difficult to tell which of his experiences are the result of he world going crazy, or his perception of it.

Either way, I really appreciate the support, Kimberly. I'm the kind of writer who puts everything he has into this insane stuff I'm producing and it means a lot to me when someone gets it.

This one really grabbed me--I wrote a review for Amazon, but still haven't added any to my new-found Goodreads account. Will this novella ever be available as a h/c or paperback? (I have a real problem with wanting to see my 5-star reads sitting on an actual shelf. I figure I'll get over this as soon as my money runs out--LOL!)

Yeah, I'm the same way. I like to collect books and see them on my shelves at home. Unfortunately, there are no plans for this one to see traditional printing at the moment. But, if I get the chance, I'll push it into print you can be sure.
